Bill and Cheryl B - Dynamic Duo

For husband and wife team Bill and Cheryl Bourman, property management has been a comfortable way of making a living but when they saw an advertisement for ACOFE they started wondering if perhaps life could become a little more comfortable.

Almost three years ago Bill and Cheryl attended a weekend workshop with ACOFE and discovered that the old saying "you have to spend money to make money" could well be true. They signed up then and there and are now working towards a sound financial future.

"The big difference between ACOFE and other training institutions is the fact that with ACOFE you pay only one joining fee which is for your whole family and for life" says Cheryl. "We have been attending workshops since we joined and now that they are also being held in Brisbane (where Bill and Cheryl now live) we can now study closer to home."

Cheryl tells me that she and her husband were initially mind boggled by all the share trading information they received from the college but her tutor kept saying "words are only for those who can't read the pictures." He taught them about the theory of trading and withdrew the fear of the market.

Cheryl goes on to say "We are now trading weekly to generate a supplementary income for ourselves. We learnt how to look at charts on the internet and make a decision within a few seconds about buying a stock or not. On average I might spend half an hour a day keeping an eye on our investments and maybe and hour at the end of the week. It's important to diversify your investments and limit your risk and ACOFE teaches you about all these things."

Cheryl and Bill focus mainly on "Blue Chip" stocks with only a small percentage of their investments being in "Mid-cap" and "Speculative" shares. "Blue chips are kind of like the dinosaurs of the market, with a documented trading plan and patience, you should always make money" Cheryl says with confidence.

"We only ever invest a small percentage of our current capital into one area of stock to reduce the possible losses. Anyone who tells you they don't ever lose on the stock marker is simply a liar."

Ongoing education is the theme behind ACOFE and with a yearly calendar distributed to all of its members they can almost guarantee a weekend workshop to fit around your schedule. Being a college of financial education, ACOFE also teaches about investments such as buying property, superannuation and debt structuring.

So far for this Brisbane duo, managing the property or managing the money has become a simple case of flipping the coin to see who does which.
